How To Overcome Doubt

Hey, Fellow Dads,

Doubt. It sneaks in at the worst times—when we’re making big decisions, when the road ahead feels uncertain, and especially when the work we’re putting in doesn’t seem to pay off right away. I’ve been there. We all have. But here’s the thing: doubt isn’t a stop sign. It’s just a checkpoint—a moment to reflect, reset, and remind ourselves why we started in the first place.

A while back, I was struggling with that very feeling. I questioned whether all the effort I was putting into this space for dads—into building something that helps men be better fathers, husbands, and men—was really making an impact. Was I on the right path? Was it worth it? A good friend reminded me of something simple but powerful: Your calling doesn’t come with a guarantee of instant success, but that doesn’t make it any less important.

That conversation hit home, and I bet it resonates with you too. Whether it’s fatherhood, marriage, career, or personal growth, doubt creeps in when we’re doing things that matter. The good news? We can push through it. And this week’s content is all about exactly that—staying true to who we are, despite the challenges.

How to Keep Going When Doubt Creeps In

In a recent podcast episode, I talked about the weight of expectations, how easy it is to second-guess ourselves, and the real work it takes to push past that internal hesitation. We broke down three key strategies for staying grounded and moving forward when self-doubt starts whispering in our ear:

  • Recognize the Voice of Doubt – It’s normal to question yourself, but don’t let doubt dictate your actions. Pause, assess, and refocus.
  • Reframe Failure as Feedback – Every setback is a lesson in disguise. Instead of seeing it as a reason to stop, view it as a way to adjust and grow.
  • Keep Your Why Front and Center – When doubt shows up, return to your purpose. Whether it’s your kids, your family, or your personal mission, hold onto the reason you started in the first place.

If you need a little push this week, go check out the episode. It’s a reminder that doubt doesn’t define us—our response to it does. Listen here.

📝7 Steps to Staying True to Yourself as a Dad

The latest blog post dives even deeper into what it means to live authentically, despite the pressures around us. It’s one thing to know who we are, but actually living in alignment with that—day in and day out—is where the real challenge is. These seven steps can help:

  1. Start Journaling – Get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. It helps with clarity and self-awareness.
  2. Challenge Negative Self-Talk – When doubt creeps in, replace those thoughts with evidence of your progress.
  3. Surround Yourself with Real Ones – Find people who see your potential and remind you of it when you forget.
  4. Own Your Strengths AND Weaknesses – Perfection isn’t the goal. Growth is.
  5. Align Your Actions with Your Values – Make sure what you’re doing every day reflects what you actually believe in.
  6. Stop Seeking Approval – Your worth isn’t determined by outside opinions.
  7. Give Yourself Grace – Growth takes time. Show yourself the patience you’d show your kids.

Doubt is part of the journey, but it doesn’t have to be the driver. When you start questioning yourself, take a breath and lean on what you do know—your purpose, your values, and the people who depend on you. You’re not alone in this. We all wrestle with it. But the difference between those who stay stuck and those who push through? One simple thing: they keep going.

So, fellow dads, let’s keep showing up. For our families. For ourselves. For the men we’re becoming.

🍻 Cheers to pushing past doubt and stepping fully into who we’re meant to be.
